Tavira Town

Tavira is a small fishing town with many shops, bars and restaurants set either side of the river Gilao. The town boats many interesting churches, a castle and even a Roman bridge. The central square hosts many events and a regular market takes place under the shade of the tress by the banks of the river. Water taxis and ferry boats provide easy access to both the island of Tavira with is long sandy beach but also to other resorts up and down the coast. Away from the old town there is a shopping center with all the usual facilities including a food court, supermarket and cinema.

There are two golf courses in Tavira as well as other activities such as fishing trips, horse riding on the beach and through the orange groves. There is also a train station which runs to Faro through the coastal nature reserve.
