This stretch of the Algarve coats line features a whole string of islands providing sheltered lagoons as nature reserves, salt pans and sea facing beaches on the islands themselves.

The beach at Tavira is accessible by ferry or water taxi form either the quayside in Tavira town, or a short drive to Quatro Aguas, with plenty of parking, at mouth of the river. The ferrys cost about €1.80 return from Quattro

The beach stretches for several miles with the usual sunbeds and shades for hire and is serviced by many restaurants and even a beach bar.
